What You Need to Gather
Collect all relevant information and documents related to the deceased person’s assets, liabilities, and personal details. You need to obtain the value at the date of death, as this figure will be used to see if probate is required and to see if any Inheritance Tax is to be paid.
This includes the following: –
- bank statements
- Land and buildings – a valuation can be obtained from an estate agent
- savings and investment records – NS&I, ISAs, shares
- debts
- utility bills
- mortgages
- credit cards
- pensions
- household goods
- personal items – jewellery, watches, etc
- employer
- landlord
